There's Still Hope of the Carolinas
Our Story
There’s Still Hope of the Carolinas (formerly There’s Still Hope Charlotte) was founded by Rev. Debra J. Hopkins in April 2017 as an emergency temporary shelter for homeless transgender adults. Within months, the program expanded to provide shelter at extended stay facilities with fully equipped studio units. In 2020, due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the program transitioned to a Transitional Housing Program.
Key Milestones Include:

Spring of 2017: {TSH} Emergency Temporary Shelter was Founded

Spring of 2018: Transfaith Became the Program’s Fiscal Sponsor

Fall of 2018: {TSH} Board of Directors was Established

Spring of 2019: The Program Received its First Grant from Borealis.

Winter of 2020: {TSH} Transition to a Transitional Housing Program

Winter of 2020: Launched its Quarterly Community Giveback Program Supporting Elderly Residents in Underserved Communities and Youth Through Our Back-to-School Drive

In 2020-2023: {TSH} Recorded a Success Rate, with 73.85% of its Residents Transitioning from Our Transitional Housing Program to Permanent Housing.

Winter of 2023: There's Still Hope Charlotte Relocated to Darlington County, SC & the Organization's was Renamed to There's Still Hope of the Carolinas

Summer of 2024: Obtained 501(c)(3) Status, & Now Serves both Carolinas, Offering Educational Workshops Alongside Housing Support.
The program and our extraordinary team and volunteers continue to make a significant impact on the lives of the LGBTQ+ Community.
